    F-16 canopy

    The question is about canopy.
    As you know, the canopy of F-16 Fighting Falcon is coated with gold.

    I have found some variants of canopy as follows;
    1: All glass area is coated
    2: Only front canopy is coated. Rear part is normal glass.
    3: All glass area is not coated (normal glass)

    Are these variants caused by different product-blocks ? Or no concerned ?

    A reason for this is to reduce RCS

    When viewed from the front, ie by rader, the gold on the front canopy reduced the RCS and makes 'it' appear a lot smaller, obviously when viewed from the front the rear portion of the B/D cockpit is not important as far as the RCS is concerned.

    The actual purpose for the gold tint is classified, you can verify this with any F-16 pilot. If it were to serve as a new glass for flash protection, you would see it on the new current age fighters, but you don't.
